Mitsubishi Motors Confirms All-New Battery-Electric Vehicle Will Be Sold In North America Starting Summer 2026

Mitsubishi Motors has announced the next vehicle in its Momentum 2030 initiative, a BEV model. This initiative was introduced as a way to provide more vehicles to customers with a new model or a revised vehicle released each year between 2026 and 2030. The recent announcement of a BEV is the next step in this plan as Mitsubishi works on fulfilling its promises.
Mitsubishi Motors will be partnering with Nissan Motor Co. to introduce a battery electric vehicle to the US and Canadian markets. The development of this vehicle is based on the popular Nissan LEAF. Customers will be able to see the new model after launch in summer 2026 in the US and Canada at dealer partners. Details about the vehicle haven’t been released yet, including the name and pricing.
Momentum 2030
This BEV isn’t the first model in the Momentum 2030 initiative. The 2025 Outlander SUV was recently debuted, being significantly revised from previous models, and is the first vehicle to fulfill the commitment to a new vehicle every year between 2026 and 2030.
This business plan was announced in May of 2024, but it provided only an overview of the initiative. The latest announcement shows more solid proof of Mitsubishi’s commitment to expanding its line of vehicles for customers. The new models that will be part of Momentum 2030 will be a mix of electric, hybrids, and traditional gasoline-powered models to give customers more choices.
What makes up Momentum 2030:
-
Move toward electrification
-
A renewed and expanded line of models
-
A modern retail sales model
-
Sales growth and expansion of network
