January 6th, 2022 by

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. is celebrating 40 years in the US. First based in Fountain Valley, California before moving to Cypress and then to Franklin, Tennessee, Mitsubishi Motors has developed a long and rich history of exceptional models for buyers. The company is celebrating this milestone with a special Anniversary Edition of the Outlander.

The anniversary marks a new or refreshed lineup for most models in the 2022 model year. At the top of the list is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander.

What once started as a startup import manufacturer has developed into a well-recognized name. Mitsubishi models are loved by many with a dedication to innovation. The brand plans to build on its loyal customer base who love their Mitsubishi models while also appealing to a whole new generation of customers.

The Early Days

Mitsubishi had been around before 1981, but the vehicles were sold under the Dodge brand as part of the Chrysler Corporation. In 1981, the company began building its own presence with its new headquarters in Fountain Valley, California.

By 1986, Mitsubishi moved to Cypress, California, which was then known as a farming community. This location housed all aspects of Mitsubishi Motors, including sales and marketing, design, R&D, operations, and more.

The next move wouldn’t come until over three decades later when Mitsubishi sets up its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee in 2019. The headquarters opened in 2020, hiring over 150 new employees.

During this time, Mitsubishi had sold almost 5.5 million vehicles in the US with close to 330 dealerships around the country. A new dealership will open only two miles from the new headquarters in Cool Springs, Tennessee. This is the 42nd dealership to open since Mitsubishi made the big move to Tennessee.

An Impressive Lineup

As the leader in the Mitsubishi lineup, the 2022 Outlander has already won numerous awards with outstanding sales records. This SUV was launched on Amazon in February of 2021 and has changed the game for the brand.

Another redesign is the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross with a new style and more safety features standard. This model also comes with more features for connectivity. Going forward, the focus will grow on alternative fuel models with the plug-in hybrid Outlander being released in the second half of 2022.

Under the Outlander title, the Outlander Sport is another option for buyers. This compact SUV offers a sportier ride along with more athletic styling. If you prefer a sedan or hatch, Mitsubishi delivers with the Mirage G4 and Mirage. Both models are fuel efficient and affordable for city or highway driving.

Mitsubishi backs its models with a ten-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty for added peace of mind. You have the option to purchase or lease one of these vehicles for your next new ride.
