Safety

A standard driver's side knee airbag is located low on the dashboard in the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. The knee airbag maintains the driver better positioned for optimal protection during a collision by preventing him from sliding under the seatbelts or the primary frontal airbag. In the event of a significant frontal crash, a knee airbag keeps the legs from impacting the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries. Knee airbags are not available in the CX-5.

The Eclipse Cross's powertrain warranty is 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Mazda's on the CX-5. For ten years or 100,000 miles, any repairs to the engine, transmission, axles, joints, or driveshafts are fully covered. The CX-5's warranty is only good for 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The corrosion warranty for the Eclipse Cross is two years longer than the CX-5's (7 vs. 5 years).

Fuel Economy and Range

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross runs on standard unleaded gasoline to save money on gas and make it easier to find. For best efficiency, the CX-5 with the 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder engine requires premium fuel, which can cost anywhere from 20 to 55 cents per gallon. The standard fuel tank on the Eclipse Cross AWD is a gallon larger than the standard fuel tank on the CX-5 FWD (15.8 vs. 14.8 gallons), allowing for a greater range between fill-ups. The standard fuel tank in the Eclipse Cross FWD is 1.3 gallons larger than the normal fuel tank in the CX-5 AWD (16.6 vs. 15.3 gallons).

Handling and Suspension

The 2022 Eclipse Cross AWD's turning circle is 1.2 feet less than the CX-5's for enhanced maneuverability (34.8 feet vs. 36 feet). The turning circle of the Eclipse Cross is 1 foot less than that of the CX-5 (35 feet vs. 36 feet). The Eclipse Cross features a higher minimum ground clearance than the CX-5 (8.5 vs. 7.5 inches) for better off-road capability, letting it traverse across rougher terrain without being halted or damaged.
